Billionaire

Billionaire

The luxury Italian label gets a reboot (and robot) from Philipp Plein – with a little help from his futuristic friend. The result is nothing short of a maximalist masterpiece.

over the years, faces of fashion brands have come in many shapes and sizes – from Eddie Redmayne at Burberry to David Gandy at M&S – but the one thing they have in common is that they all have, well, human faces. Strictly speaking, this is not the case with the frontman of Billionaire.

When Philipp Plein announced that he had bought the luxury Italian menswear label in 2016 from his old friend Flavio Briatore – of Formula One and Naomi Campbell fame – he introduced the face of the brand and its “creative director” as Mr Plutus at his show in Milan. Mr Plutus, however, is an immaculately tailored, silver-headed “robot” with more than a hint of Fritz Lang’s classic silent science-fiction film Metropolis about him (it?)
